Profitbase Studio Server

Profitbase Studio Server service is configured by Profitbase Studio Clients to update the data warehouse and the SSAS business cubes defined in the Solution. The recommendation is to install Profitbase Studio Server on the same server platform as Microsoft SQL Server. Below are the recommended minimum specifications for this platform.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016 (PS 6.2+), 2017 (PS 6.3+) or 2019 (PS 6.5) Enterprise or BI Edition with:

  • Analysis Services (SSAS, optionally Tabular from SQL2012 SP1+).
  • SQL Agent (scheduling and execution of dataflow jobs).
  • Integration Services (SSIS, optional).
  • Reporting Services (SSRS, optional).
Hardware 2.6GHz processor with 4 cores and minimum 16 GB memory (or better). 
Storage recommendations Minimum 100 GB available for data storage. High performance disk system. Several physical disks. Data and log files on different drives for better performance. Consider RAID.
Additional disk space is required for large MS SQL and SSAS databases.

Notes: Every solution should be assessed independently and sized accordingly. For solutions with large volumes and large number of users, a multi-server configuration is recommended. Profitbase Studio Server will also run on Windows 7/8/10.

 

Profitbase Studio Client

Profitbase Studio is used to configure and maintain the data warehouse. Profitbase Studio can run standalone with the application and databases running locally which is necessary for demonstrations and recommended for working on data warehouse deployment projects; or can run in conjunction with a Server platform where the SQL Server database and the Profitbase Studio Server are running. Below are the minimum recommended specifications for this platform.

Standalone installation: Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016 (PS 6.2+),(2017 (PS6.3+) or 2019 (PS6.5+) Enterprise or BI Edition with Analysis Services and Integration Services is recommended when running in a standalone configuration.

Multi-Server installation:  When SQL Server is on a different Server, then install: 

Either

  • MS SQL Client Components (Management Tools, Integration Services, Client Connectivity Components and Software Developer Kit) from DVD/image.

Or from the Microsoft SQL Server feature packs:

  • Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0.
  • Microsoft SQL Server Native Client.
  • Microsoft Analysis Management Objects
  • Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types
  • Microsoft SQL Server Management Objects
  • (if source data imported via SSIS (i.e. CSV files); then Integration Services MS SQL Client Component is also recommended)
  • ! See notes below for MS SQL 2017/2019/++.

Hardware

2.6GHz processor with minimum 4 GB memory (or better). If MS SQL server is installed, see the server requirements.
Storage Minimum 10GB available storage for databases and software installation. More disk space may be required depending on space required for local source/demo databases.
Optional Software

Internet browser for online help etc.
Microsoft Excel 2007 or newer for cube browsing.

Notes

  • From PS 6.4+ using MS SQL 2017+ SMO, AMO and DTS  is included in installation
  • From PS6.5+ MS SQL 2008 is not available from the installation program. Files are supplied with installation, and must manually be copied,
  • From PS 2023+ 
    • Only 64bit is supported
    • MS SQL 2014 or newer (2008+ in installation folder)

Optional Software and Drivers

  • PS 6.2 and forward: PowerShell (minimum version 3.0).
  • Oracle connection
  • IBM DB2 connection
  • MS Excel connection
  • PS 6.0: If MS Excel sheet(s) are to be used as a Data Source, Microsoft Access Database Engine Redistributables must be downloaded and installed from Microsoft. This contains the driver named "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB". This must be installed where data from MS Excel is loaded or previewed (client and/or server).
  • From PS 6.1 and forward: MS Excel sheets can be read with no need for installing Integration Services and Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB driver.
