Data Source folders are usually used to group data source tables by type; but the user is free to group sub items however they like.
The data source screen allows you to "Generate Table Type Folders" if there are no existing folders.
Alternatively users can create folders via the "New Folder" command and afterwards optionally set the Default Table Type.
